Day 22 - Whistleduck Creek Campground

Sunday, 20 June 2021

A Quiet Day. A walk to the large waterhole at the picnic area. Reading. Washing clothes with buckets of pale brown water from the pond near our camp. Johan takes pictures of birds, then later, night shots. He loves our new camera.

The clouds drift away and most of the day is bright blue and warm. Johan lights a fire – our first in three weeks of camping – and we wonder why it took so long to discover the pleasure and warmth they provide.

A fat waxing moon towers overhead seeding the night landscape with eery light and shadows. A faint wisp of the Milky Way. The wind has completely died. Faint trills of crickets. The cosmic hum returns.

Johan has turned from astrophotography to birds!
